Safina Empowerment Organisation

We walk with the most vulnerable communities, co-creating solutions to the most pressing issues of our time—climate change, food insecurity, and access to technology. Their journey is our journey. We know it is not an easy task, but someone has to do it.

Our Story

In 2018, a group of young activist students met and with a very clear goal—to uproot, dismantle, and destroy the oppressive systems that keep our communities from empowerment, technology, and development. To tear down the barriers that perpetuate violence, inequality, and gender discrimination. To build a world where access to education, resources, and opportunity is not a privilege, but a right.

We were determined to challenge the status quo, to fight against the injustices that kept our people in cycles of poverty and exclusion. We had seen how technology remained a privilege of the wealthy, how women and girls were denied education, and how entire communities were locked out of opportunities that could transform their lives. We refused to accept this reality.

It all began in Tenwek High School, Bomet County, where a small group of us young activists led by Daniel Ruto came together with a vision. It started as an afforestation movement, planting trees to restore our environment. But as we grew, so did our mission. We realized that our fight was bigger than just trees. We were up against deeply rooted systems of oppression—systems that ensured the poor stayed poor, that women remained unheard, and that technology remained out of reach for those who needed it most.
